Local foster family reflects on adoption day 1,018 days later.

While the goal for the Department of Social Services is always reunification first, sometimes that isn’t possible and biological parents, for a million reasons, can’t parent that child at that time. Some don’t ever come see their children in foster care, who are so precious to God and to their foster family who cherishes them, and this is one of those rare situations. This child, clearly, was always wanted and adored though. Her foster and forever mom shares on the blog today-

“1,018 days.

I will never forget the first time I laid eyes on you. Your hair was wild and untamed, just like your spirit.

I didn’t carry you in my tummy like I did your brother and sister. I didn’t get to feel you grow inside of me. I didn’t get to take maternity pictures or have a baby shower. Some people ask me because of those things, Is it different than my biological kids.

And the answer is an astounding yes. But maybe not in the way you would think.

My labor with you was so much longer than nine months… it lasted years. It was a hard labor, with many nights praying and asking God for help.

12 court hearings, 4 case workers, countless judges, phone calls, meetings, review boards, attorneys, and sleepless nights.

Today, our almost 3 year labor with you comes to an end.

Today God answers our prayers.

Today, you become legally what you always were. Ours. “
